District Governor Donald Bourque and Team

DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE

I write this article for the newsletter on June 4th, 2008 and it is so hard to believe that I am leaving in just 10 days for the International Convention in Thailand.  It is harder to believe that my time as District 33A’s VDG is almost over.

I can not express my thanks enough to this great and “AWESOME” district for their encouragement and support during the past year.  Lion Paul and I are so encouraged by every single member of this great District.

This coming year my goal for the district is RETENTION.  With keeping members in the organization this will bring in new members and keep the great job of the LIONS moving forward.  PDG Jackie is our retention chair of the MERLO team and she will be working hard on helping each and every club keep existing members.  Our MERLO team consists of Mark Desmaris (Chair), Francine Braks, (Membership), Bob Grover (Extension), PDG Jackie Millette, (Retention), Dan Bonnette (Leadership), PDG Rich Braks (Orientation). This group has been put in place to help each and every club succeed.  I encourage your club to call 1 or all of them and have them put on your calendar as a speaker.  They are all extremely knowledgeable about the workings of LIONS and can help in many ways

This year our very own VDG Jeannette MacIntosh will be spending the better part of her time concentrating on the revitalization of the Barre club.  VDG Jeannette will have all the support of the District and the MERLO team behind hind her.

Our mid-winter this year will be celebrated at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and they are not under construction.  The theme this year will be Hawaiian Luau so bring out your grass skirts and your Hawaiian shirts and let’s have a great Luau from February 6th-8th, 2009.

CST Bob Haskell and I are looking forward to visiting your clubs during the year.  We have lots of new and exciting programs that we are adding to our already fantastic lineup of awards.  Here are a few new ones:

Best Club Directory (due to DG by 10-01-2008)

Leo Secretary of the Year

Some changes we are making this year are as follows:

Newsletter will be mailed 3 times this year in color to all the club presidents including the Leos.  This will be emailed out to all other members in the District.  So get your ads into PCST Karen Lachance asap.

Bulletin: Denise Andrews (Barber) will be emailing a monthly Bulletin with all the District highlights each and every month so keep all your notices up to date and get them to Denise and to Dan for the website asap to get the maximum exposure..

This year we have also asked Cindy Manini to be our official scrapbook keeper.  So if you have any flattering (lol) photos or articles of the DG and his cabinet please send them to Cindy to present us with this at the end of the year.

Dan Bonnette, among his other jobs, will be taking on the job of Official District Photographer.  Need and shot or not Dan will be there.

Communication is going to be a huge part of what we want to accomplish this year.  Not only do we need to keep everyone aware of the happenings we also want to keep to a schedule and be on time.  This was obvious at our officer trainings recently when they both lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes only.  Keeping on a schedule and keeping informed and having a BLAST while doing it will keep more members coming to the meeting and keeping more members involved.

We want to have a BLAST year.  Now is the time we look to the future of Lionism to help us and out clubs move to the next level.

The entire cabinet is here to help the District in each and every way we can.  We want to succeed with you.  Use us as much as you can so we can all help our communities to the best of our abilities.  I am here to help in anyway that I can.  I look forward to seeing everyone and have a safe and healthy year,

Gods Speed,

DG Don Bourque
